Tobias Segura Peralta (1992) grew up in a family of musicians and discovered the piano and the guitar at a young age. When he was eight years old he auditioned for the Kathedrale Koorschool Utrecht. The conductor, Gerard Beemster, soon thereafter gave him the opportunity to sing many solos. When he was ten years old, Tobias sang soprano solo in B. Britten’s Nicolas Cantata in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. He also sang the Miserere by G. Allegri, J. Rutter's Requiem, Mozart’s Krönungsmesse and in many church services throughout Europe. While in secondary school, Tobias wrote, sang and played pop songs, but he never lost interest in classical music. Together with vocal coach Bas Ramselaar, he prepared himself for the audition at the Conservatory of Utrecht, where he studied with Jon Thorsteinsson and graduated cum laude in 2017.
At the moment, Tobias' coaches are Alex Potter and Xenia Meijer. Additionally, he has had lessons from and followed masterclasses with: David Jones, Janet Williams, Aldert Vermeulen, Charlotte Margiono, Karin van der Poel, Dobrinka Yankova, Peter Bording, Stephen Connolly, Paul Phoenix, Nico van der Meel, Abigail Richards,
Jörn Boysen, Cvetanka Sozovska, Wilbert Hazelzet, Heiko ter Schegget and Siebe Henstra.
Over the last few years Tobias sang in: Saul by G.F. Händel, The Messiah by G.F. Händel, Die Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart, The Fairy Queen by H. Purcell, Oratorio de Noël by C. Saint-Saens, the European premiere of the Litaniae Xaveriae by J.D. Zelenka, the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, the Gloria and Magnificat by A. Vivaldi, the St John and St Matthew Passions by J.S. Bach, Bach's Hohe Messe, his Weinachts Oratorio and many of his cantatas and motets.
In addition to his work as a soloist, Tobias is a well sought-after choral singer. He is currently a member of the Nederlands Kamerkoor, De Nederlandse Bachvereniging, the Dutch National Opera choir, Consensus Vocalis, Hieronymus Ensemble and The Bach Choir of the Netherlands. He has also participated in projects of The Sixteen, The Gents, La Sfera Armoniosa and Olga Vocal Ensemble. With Hieronymus ensemble, he was a finalist in the 2019 International Van Wassenaer Concours as part of the Early Music Festival in Utrecht. This year will also see his debut with Le Nuove Musiche and Capella Amsterdam.
Aside from his singing career Tobias works as a conductor and vocal coach.
